Rachel Elizabeth Coursey was born and raised in East Hampton, New York. When she was a baby, her parents and friends nicknamed her "beanbag" because she could be passed all around at a party without any fuss. Her friends include graduates of the East Hampton public school system, Wellesley College, Scotland, Midsummer, the DC film production community, and the streets of DC and Buenos Aires.
Donald "Skipper" Carver Holmes III was born and raised in Maryland, splitting time between the Eastern Shore on the water, and Kensington, just outside of Washington, DC. When he was born, his family lived on a boat so he's always been called Skipper or Skip. His community of friends hail from Sidwell Friends (a Quaker school in DC), Colgate University, The Field School (where he taught Math and coached basketball for 7 years), and the streets of DC and Buenos Aires.
Rachel & Skip are "stumpy twins." They both lost the tips of their index fingers - Skip's was sacrificed to a sailboat centerboard and Rachel's was taken by a slammed door. Ah, destiny.
The stumpy twins met through mutual friends in DC and fell in love during the magical cicada invasion in the spring of 2004. Skip proposed to Rachel in Patagonia, Argentina in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier and they were climbing the icy blue and white behemoth days later.
